Elaine O’Neil calendar honors Tom Shea, MD
Hillsborough, North Carolina, textile artist Elaine O’Neil has released her latest calendar featuring her textile collages celebrating the Tar Heel State. The 2020 Luv This Place ® North Carolina calendar benefits the N.C. Cancer Hospital’s Patient and Family Care Center and is composed of 12 images selected from the those used in the first nine calendars.
“After creating 108 textile collages for the calendar over the past nine years, I asked a dream team to help pick the top 12 images that best evoke North Carolina – from the mountains to the beach, the culture, the food and the spirit of our wonderful state,” said O’Neil. “This year also marks the N.C. Cancer Hospital’s 10th year!”
The calendar showcases original pieces of art created using myriad fabric colors and textures painstakingly sewn together. Each piece is individually photographed and turned into an 11” x 14” calendar. The monthly images are suitable for framing.
O’Neil dedicated the 2020 calendar to Thomas Shea, MD, who recently retired from the cancer hospital. Shea was the director of the UNC Bone Marrow and Stem Transplant Program, associate director of Clinical Outreach Programs at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and an expert in the treatment of blood cancers.
She called Shea a “true friend and loyal and thoughtful doctor … with an illustrious career in service, patient care and leadership which benefited national research, the people of North Carolina and my family.”
The calendar sells for $30, plus $5 for shipping. They make wonderful gifts for family and friends and—with a percentage of proceeds supporting the N.C. Cancer Hospital—is a year-round reminder that you made a difference in the life of a cancer patient.
Calendars can be ordered online through the Elaine O’Neil website.
