On Saturday, October 8, UNC’s swimming and diving teams hosted Swim Across America at Koury Natatorium. Relay teams of all ages and skill levels swam for 60 minutes as part of a charity swim to benefit UNC Lineberger’s Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program. More than $90,000 was raised by teams at the event and by participants who swam independently and logged their miles with event organizers.

The Dowd family was recognized for the new scoreboard in honor of Janis Hape Dowd, a highly decorated UNC swimmer who passed from cancer in 2021. The event also featured UNC senior diver Emily Grund, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and has become a supporter and advocate for young people undergoing cancer treatment.
