Afrim Hasanaj – Always there to support our One Great Team
Afrim Hasanaj, RN, may be a Care Coordinator at UNC Health Rockingham, but the Surgery Department is not the only place you will find him. Afrim helps support a variety of departments, including the Emergency Department (ED), Post-anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Anesthesia teams.
“I go where I’m needed,” Afrim shares.
“Afrim volunteers to be a part of various teams in order to improve quality, safety and throughput,” shares Karen Shadowens, CPA, MBA, FHFMA, CFO UNC Health Rockingham and UNC Health Caldwell, who nominated Afrim to be one of UNC Health’s #ValuesSuperStars. “He frequently floats to other departments to help out if they are short staffed or experiencing a surge in volume. He has volunteered to help more times than I can count, and that’s what stands out – knowing he is always willing to jump in.”
A member of the UNC Health Rockingham team for more than 25 years, Afrim has built a great reputation among his teammates and patients.
“He is always upbeat when you pass him in the hall or see him in the cafeteria. He remembers everyone’s name and always greets you. He has received many positive comments from patients and is an overall great teammate,” continues Karen.
Afrim attributes his work ethic to his family, who are all hard workers, and their family values.
“I have [many] healthcare providers in my family – brothers who are doctors and dentists,” Afrim shares. “As a child I aimed [to work in healthcare]. [Being a nurse] is where I found my gratitude – providing care for patients, working with a great team, looking after teammates and meeting their needs, and filling gaps when help is needed.”
