Support the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center
The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center’s comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to care includes expert medical treatment, occupational and physical therapy, pastoral care and aftercare support for patients and families, recreational therapy, rehabilitation, and social work. Your gift supports priorities in patient care as well as community education, burn prevention and scientific and clinical research that advances burn care in North Carolina and around the world.
Aftercare programs address the emotional and psychosocial needs of patients and their families and prepare them for an extensive road of recovery. Your gift provides tools necessary to heal and make a positive transition from burn victim to burn survivor. UNC’s burn aftercare program is a national model, offering comprehensive and innovative services including an adult retreat, burn survivor reunions, family camp, and Camp Celebrate, which is a weekend camp for children ages 7-15 who have survived burn injuries. In addition to activities like swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, and fishing, campers meet other children who share similar experiences related to burn injuries.
The N.C. Jaycee Burn Center, UNC Department of Surgery, and Kamuzu Central Hospital, collaborated to create a dedicated burns unit providing specialized care in Lilongwe, Malawi. Your gift supports ongoing efforts to improve patient outcomes by opening a dedicated burns theatre, improving nutritional status in the burns unit, expanding the role of physiotherapy, and investigating possible prevention strategies within the central region of Malawi.
Removing obstacles to healing is important for patients who have suffered a burn injury. The Patient Care Fund provides aid for patients and their families during treatment, including assistance with gas, food, and lodging. Your gift provides help when it is needed the most, enabling patients to better adhere to treatment plans, and ensure that they experience the best possible outcomes.
The Christopher White Fund supports professional therapeutic and psychological services for patients who have experienced severe burns and are receiving treatment at the NC Jaycee Burn Center. Your gift supports these critical services that help patients cope with the trauma of their injury and adjust to life changes they experience after injury.
