Long Beverage Brings Holiday Joy to Pediatric Cancer Clinic
A generous donation from a longtime UNC Health supporter helped create a magical holiday season for patients and families in the Reelin’ for Research Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic at UNC Hospitals.
Employees from Long Beverage, a loyal supporter of the North Carolina Basnight Cancer Hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Support Program (CCSP) through the annual Corona Cares campaign, came together this year to provide gifts that enabled the clinic to create its first-ever holiday shop for pediatric hematology oncology patients and families who were facing a hospital stay during the holiday season.
“Long Beverage has been a consistent supporter of UNC Children’s pediatric hematology-oncology patients, and we’re grateful for their ongoing partnership,” said Kelsie Boykin, the clinic’s aftercare program coordinator and a specialist in recreational therapy and Child Life. “Their most recent donation made our first annual ‘Mini’ Holiday Shop possible, providing tablets, sensory items and age-appropriate toys for our kids. Their kindness always brings so much comfort and joy to families during a season that can be especially difficult in the clinic.”
While the holiday shop, at which pediatric hematology oncology patients were able to pick out gifts free of charge to help brighten their stay at UNC, is new to the clinic this year, providing support to kids and families has become an annual ritual for Long Beverage.
“Supporting UNC Children’s at the holidays is one of our favorite traditions, and I am excited that our team was able to come together again for such a special cause,” said Bradley Shore, president and COO of Long Beverage. “We always appreciate the chance to partner with UNC Children’s to provide some holiday cheer for kids and families dealing with a tough time.”
