There are many ways to support UNC Health Foundation, beyond a one-time donation. Whether you’re making a gift now, exploring tax-efficient options like donor-advised funds or stock, or creating a lasting legacy, the options below will help you find the right path.
Giving through your donor-advised fund (DAF) is a simple, flexible way to support UNC Health Foundation. You can recommend a grant at any time and direct your gift to the areas that matter most to you.
Here’s how to give through your DAF:
Log in to your DAF provider (for example, Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable) and select the option to recommend a grant.
Most providers list UNC Health Foundation. If you have trouble locating us, you can search using our Tax ID 56-6057494.
Choose your grant amount and include a designation or area of support in the Purpose or Notes field. Because many funds are managed under the UNC Health Foundation umbrella, you may not see your preferred option listed. Include your designation in your form and we’ll take care of the rest.
Provide donor recognition information (optional). You may include your name or give anonymously, depending on your preference.
Most donor-advised fund gifts are processed without any additional steps. If we need clarification about your designation, our team will follow up to make sure your gift is applied exactly as you intend.
Please email us at [email protected] with any questions about giving through your DAF.
Making a gift through ACH—a direct, bank-to-bank transfer—or wire transfer is a secure and efficient way to give in support of UNC Health Foundation. These transfers are processed through the University, and our team will coordinate with you to answer any questions and make sure your gift is applied as intended.
Follow these steps to start your ACH or wire transfer:
STEP 1
Contact your bank or financial institution to initiate an ACH or wire transfer. You can find transfer details and instructions here.
STEP 2
Notify UNC Health Foundation—and your development officer, if applicable—of your gift so we can make sure it’s properly directed and acknowledged.
Please email [email protected] to notify us about your transfer or ask any questions. Our team will help coordinate next steps.
Donating appreciated stock or securities is a tax-efficient way to support UNC Health Foundation.
By giving stock that has increased in value, you may avoid capital gains taxes while receiving a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value of your gift.
Making a gift of stock is easier than you might expect. Stock gifts are processed through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Our team will connect you with the appropriate partners and guide you through each step.

Many donors choose to make a significant impact by establishing or contributing to a fund dedicated to a specific purpose—such as research, patient care, or education. Your gift can be structured in two ways: as an endowed fund to provide ongoing support, or as a non-endowed (expendable) fund used to meet current needs.
Endowed funds are invested to generate annual income, creating a permanent source of support for a specific purpose—such as scholarships, professorships, research, or patient care. Each year, a portion of the fund is distributed while the remainder continues to grow, sustaining impact over time.
Expendable, or non-endowed funds, are used immediately, providing support for urgent priorities and emerging opportunities. These gifts may be directed to a specific area—such as pilot research, patient and family needs, training programs, or community health initiatives—or wherever the need is greatest. Both options can support existing funds or establish something new, depending on your goals.
