“Cancer is a disease that’s treatable, and the science and technology to treat it is advancing. UNC Lineberger is making advances every day that makes cancer less of a potent killer.”

Your Support Advances Critical Research and Patient Care

Dr. Elmore is a radiation oncologist who is highly focused on individualized care for patients. Currently, she is conducting a study of Black patients with prostate cancer to understand their perspectives on shared decision-making.

Previous studies suggest that Black patients experience more treatment-related regret for their decisions and have worse survival rates when compared to white patients. Dr. Elmore is determined to see this change.

“The medical part is almost the easier part,” Dr. Elmore admits. “We have big studies. We have lots of good research. We know exactly what to do. The harder part is tailoring and individualizing care.”
