Feeding It Forward: Wegmans Delivers Record Food Amount to Support UNC FoodWell

UNC FoodWell
A record 2,454 pounds of food was collected in February in support of UNC FoodWell.

At UNC Health, we believe caring for patients means supporting every aspect of their well‑being—including access to nutritious food. That’s why partnerships like our ongoing collaboration with Wegmans matter so deeply.

This February, Wegmans completed its fourth annual Fill the Pantry drive in support of FoodWell, rallying customers and employees around the theme “Let’s feed it forward and fill the pantry.” Thanks to their incredible effort, the team collected 2,454 pounds of non‑perishable food—far surpassing their 2,000‑pound goal and continuing a remarkable upward trend from just 600 pounds donated in their first year.

Since launching in 2020, the FoodWell program at our Chapel Hill and Hillsborough hospitals has helped thousands of patients and families access the nutritious foods they need on their path to healing. Donations like this allow us to continue that mission with dignity and compassion.

We were grateful to welcome the Wegmans team to campus, where our teammates showed their appreciation in true UNC fashion—decked out in Carolina Blue. Their ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity continues to strengthen the impact we can make together.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Wegmans Chapel Hill, their employees, and every community member who contributed. Together, we’re feeding it forward and ensuring our patients feel supported long after they leave our care.
