UNC Health Value Superstars are teammates who exemplify our system values and make a positive impact on our teammates, patients and communities.
This month’s Value Superstar is Tina Barbour, Certified Medical Assistant II, at UNC Family Medicine Durham.
Tina was nominated by the practice’s Medical Director, Karen Halpert, MD, for the excellent Carolina Care* Tina provides to their patients.
“Tina goes above and beyond to make the phlebotomy experience calming for patients. When patients note that they experience fainting with blood draws, she moves them to an exam room where they can be more comfortable and plays spa music to relax them,” shares Dr. Halpert. “One morning, Tina had at least three blood draw patients requiring the ‘spa-like’ treatment.”
“Patients inspire me to do the work I do,” Tina says. “It is very satisfying to see our pediatric patients grow and become strong and healthy, as well listening to the stories of our older patients.”
“I look forward to seeing and helping our patients each day,” Tina continues. “I feel it is so important to make sure everyone has a great experience and does not dread coming to the doctor’s office. I want our patients to feel comfortable and safe.”
