Head shot of Autumn LewisAutumn Lewis – Leading the Way by Learning from Others

Starting a new job is never easy – especially when the position is in a different specialty.

After 11 years as a nurse in the emergency department (ED) and four years as Clinical Nursing Supervisor at UNC Health Chatham, Autumn Lewis, BSN, RN, decided it was time for a change. In December 2021, Autumn joined UNC Physicians Network as a Clinical Coordinator at UNC Urgent Care at Chatham Park and UNC Urgent Care at Hillsborough.

“I wanted to try something new and I felt like Urgent Care would be a great fit for me,” shares Autumn. “The position uses a little bit of everything that I’ve learned in the past – combined into one.”

As a Clinical Coordinator, Autumn is responsible for organizing and overseeing daily activities at her clinics. This includes scheduling and communicating with teammates, coordinating training and helping to ensure the highest level of patient care.

“Autumn has taken on two Urgent Care clinics and jumped right in,” Ann Godwin, LPN 1B, Clinical Nurse at UNC Urgent Care Chatham Park said. “She is a team player, a go getter and a knowledge seeker. She has really made herself available to our clinical teammates and has shown that she is going to be an awesome Clinical Coordinator.”

Coming from the ED, Autumn didn’t have the same experience as her teammates at the Urgent Care clinics, but her willingness to learn is why Ann nominated Autumn to be a one of our UNC Health #ValuesSuperStars.

“Autumn is learning the ins and outs of the Urgent Care setting at lightning speed. She has joined our team as someone who is definitely a TEAM player, and she has demonstrated that she’s going to be Leading the Way at all of her clinics. She started working, learning and watching the team, and we have watched her grow and thrive,” Ann continues.

What has Autumn thought about the change from the ED to Urgent Care?

“So far, I really do love it,” she says. “It still gives me the urgency and some of the adrenaline that I liked in the ED. You never know what is going to come in through the front door.”

Thank you, Autumn Lewis, for being one of our UNC Health #ValuesSuperStars and part of our One Great Team.
